You don't have to be a trained pastry chef to make beautiful, jaw-dropping desserts!

Do you love to hear these words: "Wow! Your [insert dessert you've created here] looks stunning!"

Even if you're not a pastry chef, you can still make stunning desserts.

My favourite reaction is when people think my cupcakes are REAL flowers! That's always my goal and then to see their delight when they realize they're edible and made with buttercream is the best.

The interesting thing is that I never went to school to become a pastry chef. I didn't take any college courses at culinary school. I haven't even taken the Wilton decorating course that Michaels used to offer several years ago.

Mostly, I taught myself! I practiced (a lot!), watched YouTube videos, and purchased a few online tutorials.

When I was first contemplating starting my business, I practiced by providing cupcakes for special occasions.

These are some cupcakes I made for Easter in the spring of 2023:

And here are some cupcakes I decorated for a friend's retirement celebration a few months later:

Now, those don't look too bad, right?

I've been running my home-bakery cupcake bouquet business since August of 2023 and this is what I created for the Bridal Expo YYC this past weekend:

I've learned so much in the past 16 months and I'm not afraid to share all the things I've learned with you.

I love the satisfaction of creating something beautiful and delicious and I want to help you have that same feeling too! Whether it's through one of my in-person workshops, a live online workshop, or a digital course - my goal is to help you create beautiful buttercream flower designs.

I went from this:

to this:

I want to encourage you that this kind of transformation is possible for you, too, and you don't have to go to pastry chef school to get there!

Make sure to watch my newsletters and social media for updates about workshops, online webinars (a holiday one scheduled for early December), and a digital course (coming in 2025). I will help guide you through - step by step.

Again, you might not have the time to practice or the funds to buy various piping tips and I get that - I have 2 kids in multiple activities, a business, a husband with a full time job, and various other commitments so time and money are limited commodities. If you'd rather have me decorate your cupcakes for you, I'm happy to serve you in that way as well.

Still think you can't level up your decorating skills?

Think of something you weren't able to do before but you eventually learned how to do it. Visualizing and reminding yourself of the things you've accomplished trains your mind to believe that you can do this, too. That thing you mastered is proof that you can learn new things and improve your decorating skills!

I'm proud of how far I've come with my decorating (see the before and after photos above!) and I'll be right here cheering you on in your decorating journey, too!
